Aligarh Muslim University, popularly known as AMU, was established in 1920 after evolving out of the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College (MAO College) that was incepted in 1875. It is a public university located in Aligarh, UP, India. AMU was established by the great social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmad khan. The university is open to all irrespective of religion, caste, gender and creed. AMU has 13 faculties, and under every faculty a separate department of study is formed. AMU is the member of AIU (Association of Indian Universities), and its courses are approved by the UGC. The university is accredited by NAAC with CGPA of 3.35 on Four Point Scale at “A” Grade. In addition, AMU is ranked 31 and 17 by NIRF 2020 in Overall and Universities Categories, respectively. It is also ranked 3 “Among Universities in India” category by India Today Ranking 2020.
